Hi all, A mail after along time.I was a bit busy
When we talk of web design and look and feel we should take into account the various browsers we need to support. If we take a design which is graphic intensive. We are ignoring users who use text based browsers. In the same manner we should avoid using frames.
The rendering should be fast and informative rather than jazzy and eye-catching(strong colors).
We can come up with a checklist for us to follow.
Sorry gopal i could not see any of your graphics. If you have archived them at some url please let the unfortunate ones like me know.

Please take a look at this:

That's the best I could locate on OSWD so far. It also looks okay in text browsers with table support (like links).
The problem is there are 1839 other people (as of now) who also think this design is good and have downloaded the template! So, chances are there are many many other websites with this same or similar design so we won't really have any identity of our own as such.
However, it does seem suitable for our purpose. If there are no objections, I will try and put in GNU/FSF stuff in this template and show it in a day or two. Of course, if anybody else also wants to do the same, it would be great :)
I am leaving for Hyd, and will not be active till 9th evening.

Please ignore the above. Sorry. On second thoughts, if we are going to copy, we might as well copy FSF-Europe's design. That's *worth* copying!
Am presently going through their mailing list archives:
http://mailman.fsfeurope.org/pipermail/web/
They switched to their present elegant XHTML-XSLT solution in April-May 2001, so if you are interested in emulating them and learning how they did it, start reading from there.
I am so enamoured of FSF-E's web site that I feel that not only FSF-India but all organisation under the FSF umbrella should adopt it. I hope that besides us even fsf/gnu.org will do away with their boring drab design and adopt FSF-Europe's design instead.
Wouldn't it be nice if all FSF sister organisations adopted the same elegant design of FSF-Europe instead of every one going their own way? The individual national organisations would then just need to distinguish themselves by their distinct logos.
I hope others will join me in studying from their mailing list archives and then we can start exchanging notes in a couple of days.
I opt for this strong-foundation-for-the-website approach. If someone feels that a lot of time has gone by without anything being achieved and wants to put up something immediately using static templates etc., please go ahead.
Regards, Khuzaima
Here's a link to a HOWTO thread started by one of the principal architects of the FSF-E website:

Me too all for it. I just tried to access it from Lynx and links and it renders very well. So the litmus test is passed!! :-) I feel we should go ahead with this design.
