Now we need to test it fully and then we will issue a public notice about the new site and the FSF-India fellowships. So please check the site quickly. I would like to issue a mail to fsf-friends etc. tomorrow. This whole website work won't have been possible without the tremendous work of the following people [in no order] -- * Sayamindu Dasgupta * Sunil Mohan Adapa * Anivar Arvind * Anurag Patel If I have missed anybody please forgive me and append to this list ;) Have a nice day all, I need reports from you guys quickly. Added Fsf-delhi to the list of mailing lists available. Though i was wondering if we need so many mailing lists? -dev, -prog, -india, -discuss have been dead for years.

Quickly went through the pages. Good work, and congratulations to all members of the team.
Giving below just a few observations:
1. We need to update the information in the pages. Events that are over (for instance, Software Freedom Day, FSF Foundation Day and Meet on Kerala School Educational Reforms) are written as though they are going to happen. We need to replace them with reports of the events, if available, or move them to archives.
2. I feel the Indian FS Projects Directory listing could have been given in one page. After all, there aren't many projects and some of the alphabets probably have no projects. Now a reader has to go to several links before he can look at all the projects, and many of the links have only one or two projects listed.
3. The Donating and Thank GNUs links take you to the same page.
4. Noticed one spelling mistake -- Disto instead of Distro in the Fellowship page under Benefits for Professional Fellowship.

That can be done. The most important part is the content. Who is going to write a report on those events? Generating content has always been a problem with us and now after moving to a CMS putting up data has become all the more easier ... we just need someone to write stuff.

Yes, I agree. But the current scheme is such that it's become very easy to add/modify an entry to the FS Directory. So let's not worry about that as long as it's easy to maintain it.
- The Donating and Thank GNUs links take you to the same page.
That's intentional. Donating should lead to the account info which is already there in the Thank GNUs page. So no point creating a new page.

Fixed.

please send me the account info, I will fill at least the events that I do. And will also send articles, and slides of talks that I give with a write up below the slide, so that more speakers could use the material.

Arun had sent a report on Software Freedom Day to fsf-friends. I am attaching it as a text file. You can modify it, if you need to. Perhaps we could request Kiran Chandra kiranchandra@prajashakti.com for a report on FSF Foundation Day. I shall try to get a report on the Kerala School Education meet. I think we should remove those events that are over from our home page. Their presence there makes one feel as though no one is maintaining the page.

I think we should be sensitive to the ease of access of the user, although ease of maintenance is also important.

Since the page is the same, then why not dispense with one of the links?

Dear Baishampayan,
Here is a report of the events during the FSFI Foundation Day 2005, sent by Kiran Chandra.
Best Sasi
Report of the July 21 activity
A workshop with 125 participants was conducted on 24th and 25th of June 2005. The workshop decided to hold events marking the inaugural day of Free Software Foundation of India i.e 21st of July. It had been decided to organise meetings and display Swecha (a customised Knoppix Live CD similar to look and feel to Ubuntu with most of the Desktop and common applications translated to Telugu) in 21 villages, to form 21 GLUGs, come out with a journal with 21 articles and to organise public meetings in 4 places (Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Warangal and Thirupati) on 21st.
Swecha was displayed in 25 villages and 17 GLUGs were formed in the state. The total number of volunteers who worked in the entire activity was 73. The participation of the memebers was voluntary and infact they were rejuvenated when they went to the people.
Public meetings on July 21:
We got a good cooperation from the district administration in all the districts where we organised public events. Three public meetings were held in Mahaboobnagar, Medak and Guntur respectively. The district collectors of Mahaboobnagar and Medak instructed all the MRO's and MEO's to be present for the event. The Medak District Collector invited us to make Medak the ground for a first area for implementing our activities in all parts of his District and offerred to help monetarily as well. The District Collector of Mehaboobnagar offered us to convert 10 model schools which have 100 computers in total to Swecha (our distribution in Telugu). The DEO requested us to conduct a work shop for teachers and offered to extend the support of forming a group that will do translations into Telugu and Urdu. The response from the students and teachers in the schools which we visited was very good and they were comfortable with the Telugu interface.
Public events could not be organised in all the important places which we wanted to. We could organise a public meeting in Guntur and sessions in SV University and two private engineering colleges. A GLUG was formed in SVU with the department secretaries of Computer Science, ECE and EEE as the core members.
Display of swecha in 21 villages
We could get co-operation from different sections of the society. The school headmasters, the MPP of Ibrahimpatnam helped us in organising the events in and around Ibrahimpatnam. We could use the services of CPI(M) comrades in Thadepally, Guntur district. The villages selected were those near the colleges where we had the possibility of forming GLUGs. The GLUGs were formed and they activiely participated in making these events a success. The GLUGs convinced their managements to provide computers for the display in villages.
